Ironically, as an African-American, I find this article far more offensive than the McDonald's site.


I think people of all races, colors, and creeds can come together to be offended by this hand-waving, contentless, link-baiting nonsense that somehow hasn't been flagged into oblivion yet.

Maybe that's just me.

Let me preface this with the fact that I don't think the author had any bad intentions here.

That said, the article exposes a latent mentality of "there are white people and then there's this big group of 'diverse' non-white people who are all pretty much the same."

So let me get it straight: the author is offended by the idea of having community sites that appeal to different cultures and thinks the solution is ... having "a diversity website saying they support all different kinds of cultures, races, charities and organizations" instead?? Give me a break.

IMHO "celebrating diversity" isn't pretending that there are no differences and putting all minorities under one big umbrella; it's knowing that we're all different, having no problem with it, and enjoying the variety.
