In terms of its level of severity (and all round insanity) attacking OpenSSH with a backdoor is as if someone had hoax-mailed a packet labelled “Anthrax” to every tech business in the world.

Brazenly stupid and pointlessly broad: the motivation could just as easily have been to cause mass societal disruption (“terrorism”) instead of a targeted attack that just happened to sweep up everyone else in its arms.
