As I cross into my mid-40's, it's occurred to me that I should start thinking about what areas I'd like to start emphasizing, so as to be able to gracefully transition into a retirement niche, that will let me have fun, earn money and hopefully not have to work brutally hard.

I recently started a fantastic job as a support team lead, with freedom to poke into code etc., and as our product sits on top of a database, I've been using the opportunity to improve my Oracle skills and knowledge.

Most of the Oracle DBAs I've met have been pretty laid back, worked normal hours and generally seemed to enjoy what they do, so this seems like it might be a great area to think about moving towards, some ways further down the line.
