I said "Jane, you ignorant slut" in a joke thread and my account was permanently suspended for "Violating our rules against hateful conduct."

It's literally a quote from an old Saturday Night Live skit that Dan Aykroyd used to do. It wasn't directed at anybody or anything.

So much for humor & free speech at Twitter. I did submit an appeal, but it's been a week and no reply. Meanwhile, Qanon is back on Twitter. I'd be happy to use it in a read-only mode but it doesn't show the people or accounts I follow, which is useless.

Edit: I find the downvotes to be quite interesting. I have the feeling that in some ways moderation on tech like Twitter + Meta is experiencing a clash of generations. What was mainstream comedy 30 years ago is quite different than today.

I have been suspended twice and am currently waiting out a seven day suspension. I don't think my comments were any different from many other posts I see daily.

My previous suspension was equally befuddling. I am also unaware of any way on Twitter to see your previous strikes or how/if/when they ever expire.

Comedy is outlawed again. I hope you enjoyed the intermission.

As a boomer, I immediately recognized the reference. But I doubt that boomers are managing Twitter's moderation. So perhaps it's the lack of context more than changing standards.
