This is pretty bad, apparently they didn't even let him contact his lawyer: "The actions of the police are also being criticized because Mai was apparently not allowed to contact his lawyer during the house search". That's just straight up illegal.
They said that the person being searched is not allowed to make phone calls, which is correct except when they want to contact their lawyer. They just omitted that part apparently...
What I don't understand is how seizing all his gadgets is of any use... if he is straight up saying that he wrote the comment himself. A joke of a judge must have allowed this.
This is not the first time the Staatsanwaltschaft (public prosecutors office) of Augsburg has made dubious and potentially politically motivated decisions. If you look at the list of dubious cases and their sources on Wikipedia (perhaps using a translator service) there seems to be a worrying trend and continuity to their questionable decisions. [0]
Notably their 2013 decision to allow a police raid on the regional newspaper Augsburger Allgemeine because an unknown individual posted an allegedly offensive comment against the CDU politician Volker Ulrich in the comments section on the newspapers website raises questions about whether the same decision would have been made had the „victim“ not been an important member of the party in power in the city of Augsburg.
Or their 2009 decision to allow a police raid on someone who was accused of illegally downloading two individual songs worth 1,29 each.
