Winning Against a Grandmaster [video] (loom.com)

A NM vs GM. There is 300p difference in rating between them. Of curse a GM can have a bad day, and the NM a good day. I'm not saying the win wasn't fair and a great win, but there is nothing spectacular about this video. The NM got a nice rating bonus for beating a highly rated player, but all in all, why is this on hacker news?

If you want chess analysis, check out Agadmator, Gotham Chess or Hikaru Nakamura's youtube channels.

Thank you for the compliment. I posted this on HN to see if there is any interest in short chess videos and to get some feedback for future videos.

I watch a lot of chess videos online, it's a wonderful sport to be watching and there is a lot of content out there. There is definitively a market for more interesting chess videos, I usually consume this content via twitch or YouTube. I noticed that the video platform you are using allows comments with timestamp, seems like a novel feature, do you think this is a good platform for you to be using to vlog or distribute videos?

Good luck on beating more GM!

Great to hear your thoughts. I think the Loom platform is unique and easy to use especially for sharing short videos on a range of topics. The one downside is that it is not so easy to get subscribers / followers directly from Loom (unless a CTA is used). I am aiming to create short videos around the basics of the game and strategies (on opening themes, positional concepts, tactics, etc) that players can adopt to win. If you have any suggested topics that you are interested please do share.

Thank you very much.

One of my passions is to play chess. I have been privileged to represent South Africa internationally at chess for more than a decade.

Here is a short video explaining the strategies that I used in a chess game to win against a Grandmaster.

"winning against a grandmaster" although they played 1+0 which favours lower rated players much higher than any other timeformat. still an impressive feat to score that high.

the explanation literally takes twice as long as the actual game they played, its insane how large the information processing speed can be in humans.

> although they played 1+0

Good catch, that's definitely a different story; I myself have beaten titled players multiple times at bullet even though I'm completely trash at chess. One-minute in particular is basically a chess-themed video game.

The author seems competent and is a titled player himself, though.
