I usually see is q for position, p for momentum, and a for acceleration. But that might be too much time in Landau and Lifshitz.


This is relatively standard notation.

To be very attentive during an exercise in Lagrangian-formulated quantum mechanics you had better make sure to dot your qs and cross your hs.
