I'm going to try the power management things you did for your laptop and see how they work for my model. I too use root on ZFS. Boot environments and using powerd++ are things I've been meaning to but have not yet got around to.

Honestly I'm not seeing any improvement from powerd++, normal powerd worked fine for this dual-core + HT processor.
