Heuristical branch-and-bound

1910s Dodge v. Ford Motor Co.

What school is offering sailing scholarships?

HINT: NONE. If this is true, I'd really like to know what program that is.

Sailing isn't an NCAA sport, it's governed by its own association the ICSA. Sailing Scholarships are explicitly disallowed, in fact the bigger issue that's been happening in collegiate sailing is the opposite of a scholarship.

Eager and wealthy parents making huge donations to sailing programs, rowing programs, lawn dart programs, fencing programs, etc to get admission into top schools where their kid wouldn't be able to get in on their own merit.

I was probably incorrect stating that it was a scholarship, my bad - I know there were some incentives, but whether it was a financial deal or not I don't know. The main point for her, the student, was that due to her sporting achievements she was given offers of places from several of the top universities so she could take her pick.

I get a lot of private aviation ads. I certainly can’t and will not be flying private anytime soon, but I assume I get fed these expensive ad buys because I do have an ADSB radio hobby.

I also click them often. $$$$

I think they meant sqlite is often used in CI/CD testing environments as an alternative to running a client/server database in these environments. For simple crud webapps, or frameworks that are db agnostic it works well.

They connected the headphones to a wireless controller. The wireless controller doesn't have a GPU.

yeah but the noise coincides with when coil whine happens so i think that's still a solid guess

You’re averaging a new application every business day? How does that even work deploying and maintenance? What happens if you leave and your 200 vibe coded apps become tech debt?

I’m including everything in that count: scripts, Python-compiled executables, development tooling, and custom software. On some days, I’ll build five or more small tools or scripts just to automate a single process. Working for a small business gives me the flexibility and freedom to explore new technologies and experiment.

That doesn't answer any of the concerns raised by the parent comment, only reinforces them.

Would you be willing to give an example of a typical app/tool like this that you made?

Both of these tools already exist multiple times over. I get the value of creating them yourself as a learning experience - not so much the value of getting an LLM to create them for you.

“claude fix this tech det”

It’s not that we can’t do it, it’s that higher-velocity occasionally buggy code has proven time and time again to be significantly more profitable than formally verified. The juice is rarely worth the squeeze.

I generally agree with your assessment. But frumplestlatz also says that literally their smartest engineers are not smart enough to do formal verification.

Agreed. Further, this has been true even ignoring formal verification. Who has been in the situation of making the choice to ship known-buggy code to make a release date or satisfy a customer demand for other functionality? All of us, I suspect, if we’re being honest. I certainly have.

$150-$200 if you book ahead.

Jeez. How much is a Waymo gonna be?

I only do LAX if it’s cheaper/ faster than SAN. LAX is so much better connected in terms of direct flights because of the competition the cost/time is often worth it. I’d rather sit in a cab than get stuck in ATL/DTW/SLC.

LAX is better for flights to Asia, I don’t want a layover in SF ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
