It's amazing at how terrorism has been re-defined. When I was a kid you had to blow up skyscrapers or planes (or both at the same time), set off bombs in a crowded area, or a specifically targeted mass shooter to be labelled a terrorist.
I’m not saying it is historically accurate, but I would encourage anyone who didn’t experience interactions with law enforcement pre-9/11 (in the US) to watch early seasons of Law & Order.
It is pretty informative, even in the dramatic context of the show, to see police interactions and the respect for / erosion of individual rights when you view the seasons before 9/11/2001 and after 9/11/2001.
Yeah, after the initial shock and horror of seeing the Twin Towers go down was an overwhelming sense of dread in how that was going to justify an aggressive police state.
Yeah really does show you how it's now (actually for some time) just a label, conveniently morphing over time for people/groups you don't like, losing any actual meaning because it's applied so liberally.
And it's ironic because there are clearly "real terrorists" (i.e. 9/11 guys).
Labeling everyone "terrorists" became fashionable very quickly specifically after 9/11. I think it has decreased by 80-90% or so since then. "Terrorists" used to be everywhere.
In SF, the initial dispatch is still in the clear. But a lot of EMS/Fire traffic is unencrypted, as is certain "event" radio traffic. The SF Police Commission doesn't want SF to have a totally encrypted radio system for accountability reasons.
Thank you for contributing to the enshittication of the web. We keep our streams open so our listeners can easily and freely access us, unlike most other internet radio services. But if things like this get any traction, we're going to have to start restricting them.
We are paying for your little hobby. SomaFM pays close to $100k a year now on music royalties. We pay based on a per-listener, per-song basis. Sites like yours cost us money even when someone only checks it out for a few seconds.
SomaFM is a tiny organization, we're not some VC-funded startup.
Sure, I understand, it’s just proof of concept and I selected your platform as one of the best ones, I will pause the stream for now, is there anyway we could chat, if you’re willing to?
You are costing us money. We have to pay royalties to the artist for each person who hears even part of a track. We do not have ads in the streams.
Why are you being so stubborn about honoring our request? Why not play creative commons music, embed SoundCloud tracks, or make your own music mix and pay the royalties on that.
Don't steal our content (that we have to pay royalties for each listener on) for your "proof of concept".
My bad, what I thought will be little experiment turned out to something bigger, I really appreciate and respect your work, I took my lessons out of this, stream changed to SoundCloud, in the future I consider to use AI generated chill music stream if there will be any good one soon.
Thank you and I apologize one more time, SomaFM is a legendary and something that I love personally, all the best, Olzhas Y.
P.S. Please tell if there is any other questions left.
Olzhas, Please remove Groove Salad (and/and any other SomaFM stations) from your site. Not sure what you mean by "agreements that are under review" but stop trying to get around our blocks.
They can also cut the copper/fiber/coax coming into your house. If the NVR/whatever recording your video isn't in a super obvious place it will take a thief longer to find that then it would be for them to clip your connection to the net.
