Nice! This is perfect. So many other grid generators seem clunky by comparison

Thankyou!

This is definitely a thing. Here's a link from my friend in Kansas, and how Comcast is preparing for it already:

Incredible what happens when you get a little competition!

A reasonable article on how cable companies can respond.

http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2013/12/why-co...

tl;dr: by using more spectrum in the coax cable can get pretty fast... So pressure from Google should get them to crank up the speed sooner than later.

As mentioned in the article, this requires a DOCSIS 3.0+ modem, and there are costs to rolling out equipment. Cranking up the speed isn't simply a matter of turning the dial on their end.

However you are correct that coaxial cable has plenty of room for improvement with a cost that pales in comparison to rolling out FTTH.

I'm due to get fibre installed later this month. Can't wait to go from 10mbit/0.8mbit ADSL to 100/50.

Thanks for the feedback (and others) on stash. Right now we're down to choosing between Stash and a couple others, and it seems to be the best choice for the team.

Hey anything is better than SVN which is what we use now!

On the Admin side it has been easy to get up and running for testing, the upgrades are pretty painless and come on a time based release cycle. The docs are decent and there is a rest api and the company has been very responsive to tickets we file. And it is _significantly_ cheaper than github:fi.

On the user side it hits all of the big items and the interface is useable. It doesn't have some features like GitHub's image diff or gh_pages support, but for many things there are Stash plugins that either exists or you can write. And they provide an easy way to not leak internal url's while using gravatar (http://benjamin-meyer.blogspot.com/2014/03/how-to-stop-leaki...)

The biggest downside I have at this point would be that out of the box the permissions model is not as rich/robust as gitolite. Although most Git frontend servers are no where near as rich as gitolite.

Developers will love it. For what it's worth Stash fits perfectly in our review process where anyone can be assigned to review and comment on code. The pull request diff explorer makes it super easy to track which files have been reviewed already and contain comments. It really has increased our overall effiency and shared knowledge as a team of seniors and juniors.

Give it a try!

Are these ordered by post time? I've always wanted that option on HN :)

No these are simply a reflection of the top 30 links of HN captured every hour. It's pulling them from HN's rss feed.

The point here is to find something that was at the top a number of days ago.

I sometimes also find that I like a bunch of the posts on HN that I want to read at a later time, and then I don't refresh HN for a while, because I'm scared to lose those links. With HN History I don't have to :)

I have also seen folks use bungee cords. You can get a lot more wood in a big circle, then stand on top of it and split it.

I’ve always used the bungee trick, too. Easier than getting split wood out of the tire.

I know they are expanding, big time. They've purchased space in Portland and already started hiring. I think they're going to try and grow before they need to. And some backup doesn't hurt.

I've spoken with people who work for the state of Oregon.... state employees who are working on the software infrastructure for recreational marijuana dealers. Licensing, taxing, etc. It's basically a scaled up version of the current system of medical growers/distributors but tailored for recreational use.

That's how confident they are legalization is coming in the next few years.

I thought it was legal in those states? Also, it's a bit of a virtuous cycle: legalization is coming because many people think it is coming.

Haha I don't think is actually a thing. But it would be really cool if they did stuff like this. It would be sweet to get an icon every time you hit a significant number, like 1024, 32767 or 80085
