There’s a guaranteed path to AGI, but it’s blocked behind computational complexity. Finding an efficient algorithm to simulate Quantum Mechanics should be top priority for those seeking AGI. A more promising way around it is using Quantum Computing, but we’ll have to wait for that to become good enough..
Or speed. I think Frank Herbert was on to something in Dune. The energy efficiency of the human brain is hard to beat. Perhaps we should invest in discovering "spice." I think it might be more worthwhile.
At least the solar system I would say. Quantum mechanics will help you do that in the correct way to obtain what Nature already obtained: general intelligence.
And yet, inevitable. That’s why a simulation of the universe would be a secure way of creating AGI in the true sense. All depends on: can you find an algorithm that simulates quantum physics efficiently, or, can you make a quantum computer with sufficiently many qbits?
We already choose each other based on genetic diversity. Smell for example is a big factor, did you notice that people you’re not attracted to usually smell worse than those you’re attracted to? And I guess there are many other non-rational ways the body-mind chooses for us. As always we think that science can do better than evolution. We’ll see, but if I had to bet..
I’ve read the article and skimmed the paper, but they don’t seem to say if the model has to be retrained every few days or every now and then. Because if it’s trained on marginals it seems to me that the model essentially learns to forecast weather at each location (a bit like locals do), but weather patterns might change over time so I guess they’ll have to retrain it. The retraining frequency might be a deal breaker if for example you have to train it for 3 wall lock days every, say, 7 days.
You could try investing the unemployed time in your own project and see if it goes somewhere. Do the things you’d like to get hire for. Innovate. I understand it’s unwaged work but at least you don’t waste your time and it will make your cv better.
Contrary to asexual reproduction, sexual reproduction permits population shrinkage.
That is because we evolved with the need to be able to shrink the population when necessary. We are too many and population is going to shrink naturally on its own no matter what.
If your income depends on the number of consumers, then I can see why you don’t want population to shrink.
