Another cool thing about VSCode is it can be run in browser [1] now and this browser based VS code is available on GCP[2], AWS[3] and Azure[4] as well if you want to give it a try but note that there is usage cost in addition to the infrastructure usage for the cloud vm.
draw.io is a good alternative . By default it does not show icon for cloud services but if you click on "More Shapes" option at bottom left, you can add AWS,Azure and GCP and create all sorts for architecture diagrams.
Plus, it is opensource and can run your own self hosted draw.io app from github.
If you are trying to setup xrdp on GCP/AWS/Azure then there is a VM available on the marketplace with preinstalled xrdp, GUI and lot of other opensource apps. You can spinoff your instance from that vm and you are good to go with RDP and remote desktop.
Listed a paid vm on azure,aws and gcp . The VM has all the required setup for learning Etherem and Truffle. Created video tutorials alongside to help use the VM.
I have made around $1500 so far in 6 months and still counting.
