CORE WAR TOURNAMENT ANOUNCEMENT

Inversed has announced the Nano Core War Challenge, with a first prize of $100. Entries will be scored against the Nash equilibrium, and a new equilibrium will be calculated.

What is Core War?

Core War is a programming game which challenges players to write a program in an assembly-like language called Redcode. Programs compete by trying to eliminate all opponents in a shared, simulated memory called the core. The last program standing wins the round.

What is Nano Core War?

Nano Core War is a compact Core War environment with a memory size of 80 and a max program length of 5. It encourages efficient code, supports diverse strategies, and is ideal for experimenting with genetic algorithms.

Full details are available on the tournament website and in the newsgroup rec.games.corewar

Yes, that's Darwin from 1961 https://corewar.co.uk/darwin.htm

There's a Core War tournament in progress this week, being livestreamed on twitch https://twitch.tv/corewarglobal

Also, there are better quality scans of Dewdney's articles here https://corewar.co.uk/sciam/

Four squares solved in 7 cycles, 16 threads and overlapping code :-) https://twitter.com/john_metcalf/status/716901521036861440/

alexkus: off topic, but would you mind sending me an email about RM380Z Robot Arena? :-) gmail digital.wilderness

(sorry, I couldn't figure out how else to contact you)

There are also a couple of other computer museums open to the public in the UK, one in Swansea, the other in Leicester. I think there's also one in York which you can visit by appointment only.

Not if you take your entry to the museum on the day.

Are you going? I just wonder if it might be possible to send a delegate :-) I can not make it in person, but perhaps somebody could take my submission?

Not that I have anything ready yet, so I probably wouldn't come up with a great warrior in the short time. But it seems a shame to miss it.

I'll be there (I'm one of the organisers). If you send your program to the email on the tournament page (http://corewar.co.uk/spring2014.htm) before 23:59 GMT on 29th May I'll make sure it takes part. After that, I probably won't have net access for a couple of day.

The same offer applies to anyone else who missed the deadline.

Thank you for the offer. I only read it at 23:45pm because I am traveling. Too bad - but anyway, it's great that you organize it.

This old forgotten programming game stole my Friday afternoon! I'd be happy to run a tournament if anyone's interested :-)

As a big fan of programming games I've always wished for a decent site with information about the different games. After waiting in hope I finally gave in and created my own :-)

If you're a fan of programming games I'd love to hear from you.

Otherwise please feel free to criticise my choice of platform :-P

There's also C++Robots: http://www.gamerz.net/c++robots/

Has anyone here ever played Darwin?
