Given that any self hosted open source model would have worked just as well. I can’t see this good faith post as anything more than forwarding open ais long campaign for regulatory capture.

Self-hosting LLMs is expensive at scale. It's cheaper to use VC subsidized model inference like the OpenAI APIs.

There are plenty of VC-subsidized inference provider which uses open source LLM for much cheaper than OpenAI (which isn't really VC-subsidized at this point but Microsoft-subsidized).

My anecdata is most teams I've talked to say its below OpenAI at scale, and vLLM is a beast. It's interesting to hear the opposite, there's lots of cheaper providers, but the "VC dollars" argument can go "turtles all the way down", I suppose. Still, reality seems to differ.

At "scale"? At what scale?

I did, (December 2020)

The chip ignite path does not require designs to be published, unlike the Google sponsored MPWx tapeouts.

I get that, but the link literally says: "The Open Source FPGA ASIC". With that in the title, I would expect to be able to find the source of the FPGA.

Required or not, it is desirable.

Looks like this has been put together by Efabless themselves. I dont think the rtl would be too different from OpenFPGA(https://github.com/lnis-uofu/OpenFPGA) married to the caravel f/w.

My guess would be that the first prototype that they made was too buggy to publish. The promise is that they will share the final design, and I am fine with that.

(I am not affiliated with the project, but backed it)

According to this website: MPW-1 had a hold time violation in it's clock tree, so the RISC-V is unusable.

https://www.zerotoasiccourse.com/post/mpw1-bringup/

Yikes. If I'm understanding that correctly every chip that came back from MPW-1 was more or less unusable - they were all required to gate access to I/Os behind the same management processor provided by the company organising the run, and because that management processor was broken they couldn't configure the I/Os to route through to their own designs.

Yeah that is my understanding too. You REALLY don't want a hold time violation, as you have to go in and edit the chip circuitry to fix that.

Update: marcan_42 apparently found it: https://efabless.com/projects/33

I don't think they are the same:

Look at the picture in it versus in the link:

https://groupgets-files.s3.amazonaws.com/Efabless/open-sourc...

They are different. Also, if you go to https://vlsicad.ucsd.edu/Publications/Conferences/383/c383.p...

Figure 6: You can find the image from the link (top left), and the on ehtat you linked (bottom left), so they are two different projects.

Adani has been making and selling solar panels in india for the last 2+ years, the duties are a late step to stop Chinese dumping that wiped out solar panel manufacturing being done by companies like moserbear in Greater Noida a decade ago.

I've been playing with a writing tool shortlyread.com which purpotedly uses the GPT3 API. I had a similar experience in its responses to a lot of my prompts containing text verbatim from many sources and sometimes even going on to output personally identifying about persons related to the original text.

Took a look at that.

It's better at being a text editor, in that you can click the text and edit it! (Sweet relief.)

But it's missing the world-info feature from AI Dungeon, and without that I don't think it's practical to write anything long-form.

It actually does have that feature , it's tucked away in the probe panel.

Does anyone know if its possible/ tried to do ram upgrades with higher capacity chips by replacing the dram like one does in the newer chip stacked iphones?

This sounds great for Industry 4.0 and Edge Automation, The Management core can do a Linux boot and partition the hetrogenous SoC and launch VMs each running with dedicated HW resources. From what I've seen Jailhouse supports the Xeon Cache partitioning so it's pretty good process isolation.

Back now in India

It's been down for the last 10 minutes again

Has anyone played with Baidou`s Face Ai Products , I cant read Mandrin and The site is impossible to navigate with google transelate.@ http://ai.baidu.com/tech/face Would really appreciate a pointer to a independent performance eval of the same .

OK. Did you find these SDK?

http://ai.baidu.com/sdk#bfr

from there you will need to still sign-up via their free tier via dreaded portal for API key:

https://console.bce.baidu.com/ai/?fromai=1#/ai/face/overview...

Apparently "立即注册" means "Sign up now"! So you will have to go through that and lovingly translate each field. If you right-click in Chrome and click Inspect on a textbox you will see they have English names for their control namess (like name="userName") ... lol.

Thanks !
