Semi related, I recently watched these videos of Benn Jordan's field recording adventures and enjoyed them a lot.

That’s unfortunate, but I don’t see that he was prosecuted for anything. I still think he would’ve been a better choice

Because you like his songs?

No I don’t listen to his music at all, just the superstar power. I think Haiti needs someone with a global image. To draw attention to the country. Haiti is going to be corrupt for the foreseeable future, I anticipate everyone involved is going to be corrupt at some level, but his star power could have been used for good.

> While I have some criticisms, most of the historical facts are correct. There are places where I could nitpick, but most of the facts are solid. I think the problems with the articles are in tone and in conclusions.

The softest of takedowns.

I agree, and it seems like most commenters (so far) seem not to have read the “takedown”. What the author mostly criticizes is that the NYT is not providing enough evidence, not that things are clearly wrong.

Sadly, the author's title produces the same sort of response that NYT's title does. Nuanced analysis is blown over by people reacting to titles.

> In 1978, the ACLU succcessfully [sic] defended the right of neo-Nazis to march in Skokie, Illinois, a community populated by Holocaust survivors. But in 2018, following the ACLU’s successful litigation to obtain a permit for white supremacists to march in Charlottesville, Virginia, which ended in death and disaster, the ACLU issued new guidelines. Citing concerns about “limited resources” and “the potential effect on marginalized groups,” the organization cautioned its lawyers to take special care when considering whether to represent groups whose “values are contrary to our values.”

First off. A professor writes a mere 1,000 word article for a major publication and it has typos. Yikes.

Second, the author points to action the ACLU took to defend the right of white supremacists to march in Charlottesville in 2018 and then tries to say they've changed position but doesn't demonstrate that with any proof of similar action or inaction -- just words. IMO actions are more important than words and if the ACLU's actions are still in line with the mission you say you agree with, this is much ado about nada.

Same here. I've had an account since 2007. This will be the thing that nudges me far enough to delete my account.

> What in the world could this person contribute?

Easily more than you're contributing to this conversation.

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for but these two videos discuss the results of a Fermilab experiment that hints at a crack in the standard model.

There's no need. He knows how he's going to vote before any arguments are given.

> There are more interesting and less implausible hypotheses out there than the "just so" dark matter one.

I'd love to hear about all of the less implausible hypotheses you're referring to.

The description reminds me of the Lyra-8 by Soma Laboratory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8od1a1mySU
